Tell us a bit about yourself

Rene- Sioux City Yoga for WomenI am Rene. I am a wife, mom of 2 adult children , RN at Siouxland Womens Healthcare, dog mom to a Westie and a Schnauzer, and a yogi.

What brought you to Evolve?

I started practicing yoga at age 51 ( 9 years ago) at Yoga & Moore. I was very fortunate to practice with wonderful teachers especially Trishia Gill and Brian McCormick. When Yoga & Moore closed , I decided to go where I knew the best teachers- Trishia and Brian. It was difficult at first as we had a very close knit community at Yoga & Moore. Erin has always been very welcoming and an amazing teacher. Every teacher brings something new and fresh . Now when I enter Evolve, I feel a sense of peace.

What keeps you coming back?

Because of the sense of peace, I keep coming back. Slow mindful yoga is what I love. It helps in my daily life in every aspect by calming the mind to adjust to the ever changing difficulties in life.

What’s a challenging pose that you are growing to love?

Challenging poses are not the reason for my yoga practice. My challenge has always been to calm the mind. I am working on my breathing techniques and muscle engagement in each pose. I make adjustments to my poses with the voices of every teacher that I have had in the past and present. I never do a Warrior II or boat pose variation ( a Brian favorite) without Brian’s voice in my head. He will be forever missed!!!

What pose brings you the most joy?

My favorite pose is half moon pose. It is a very freeing pose.

What has been the most unexpected change (or realization) you’ve had as a result of your yoga practice?

Initially , I started yoga for the physical practice but now realize how much my faith has been interwoven into my practice. Many “Hail Mary’s” have been said on my mat.

Is there anything else you’d like to share?

Practicing yoga at Evolve adds peace and comfort to my life! It is my forever yoga home.
